I Was The Perfect Queen But He Forgot My Name Chapter 04

Not long after I returned to the Cedar Ridge estate, news of the prince and the village Healer’s daughter was all over the media.

A few days later, Julian walked to the front of the main royal castle and demanded that his father publicly cancel our engagement.

Alpha King Arthur refused.

So Julian stood on the steps, in full view of security cameras and royal reporters, for three days. On the third day, it began to rain. He simply dropped to one knee in the downpour, using the most public method imaginable to force his father’s hand.

My name was everywhere in the comments.

The younger members of Cedar Ridge living in the capital barely dared attend social events, terrified of being asked if I had truly been cast aside.

I locked myself in my room.

My mother, Helena, brought me a bowl of hot soup. She glanced at the dinner I had barely touched and said with concern, “Eat something, please.”

I shook my head. After a long silence, I finally asked, “Is he still out there?”

My mother didn’t answer.

So I knew. He was still kneeling in the rain.

His silver wounds hadn’t fully healed. How badly did he want to be rid of me, to torture himself like this?

I finished the soup to ease my mother’s worry, then picked up my car keys.

“I’m going to the castle.”

She couldn’t stop me.

Through the curtain of rain, Julian’s back was still ramrod straight, his black formal suit soaked through.

I took an umbrella from my assistant, Tessa, and walked over to him.

His face was pale, his features still handsome, but he felt so unfamiliar it made my heart clench.

I lifted the umbrella over his head.

When he saw me, his voice was cool.

“Miss Carver, there’s no need.”

I didn’t move.

He shifted aside, exposing himself to the rain again.

That desperate need to avoid me was more humiliating than all the cameras combined.

Once, he had said he would only marry me. Only choose me.

Now, he knelt before the entire kingdom for three days, all to abandon me for another woman.
