He Let Me Bleed So I Let Him Go Chapter 28

Elena’s body moved before her mind could catch up.

She dropped to her knees and pressed both hands over the wound in Dante’s side.

Warm blood seeped relentlessly through her fingers.

“Call a doctor,” she said, her voice sharp and clear. “Now.”

Luca already had his phone out.

“Get a private clinic OR prepped. Seal the parking lot exits. Bianca goes to the committee guards.”

Two of Bellandi’s men stepped forward at once, secured the knife, and pinned Bianca against a car.

No one called the police.

An assassination attempt between Families had to be judged by internal arbiters. Bianca had drawn a knife in front of two Family heads and their men. Not even the Ferraro family could make this go away.

Luca stripped off his suit jacket and handed it to Elena.

“Use this. Apply pressure.”

Elena took it and pressed down hard on the wound.

Her hands were shaking, but her face was a mask of concentration.

A man was bleeding out in front of her. It was impossible to feel nothing.

Dante’s consciousness was fading.

But his eyes remained fixed on Elena, and his lips moved.

“You must have been in so much pain.”

“This time… let me feel it for you.”

Elena’s hands stilled for a fraction of a second.

She lowered her eyes to the jacket, now soaked crimson.

“Dante, you don’t have to do this.”

“I’m not going to forgive you because you took a knife for me.”

A tremor went through him.

“But don’t die here,” Elena continued, her voice steady. “Death is too easy. You should live and remember what you did.”

The clinic’s ambulance arrived quickly.

As Bianca was being shoved into another vehicle, she was still struggling and screaming.

“I didn’t mean to stab him! The one I wanted dead was Elena!”

“Dante, tell them! Tell them I’d never really hurt you!”

No one answered her.

The car door slammed shut, cutting off her voice.
