Their Favoritism Resulted In A Cruel Outcome Chapter 09
Henry’s voice shook so badly the words were nearly impossible to make out.
“I promised Molly that after the wedding, I’d take her to the beach to fly a kite.”
“She’s dead.”
“She’ll never call me Dad again.”
Blair turned to my father, tears streaming down her face.
“Dad, help me.”
“I didn’t mean for them to die.”
“It was those three men who knocked over the heater.”
My father gave my grandmother’s body to James and walked toward Blair.
Blair thought he was coming to help her up and reached a hand toward him.
Instead, he closed his hand around her throat.
“Why did you intercept the money?”
“Why did you have someone tear Willa’s wedding dress?”
“She gave you her room, her jewelry, the beach house. Why wouldn’t you just let her go?”
Blair’s face darkened to purple. She clawed at my father’s wrist.
“Because she took my life.”
“If it weren’t for her, would I have spent twenty-six years in foster homes?”
“She lived the life that should have been mine. She should give it back.”
My father’s grip tightened.
“The nurse who switched you is dead.”
“Willa was just a baby.”
“What did she ever take from you?”
“She gave you everything she could.”
“Why did you still have to destroy her?”
For the first time, real fear showed in Blair’s eyes.
Just as she was about to lose consciousness, Connor caught my father’s arm and shoved him away.
Blair collapsed to the floor, coughing violently.
Thinking Connor was still protecting her, she grabbed at his pant leg.
“I knew you wouldn’t just leave me.”
“I only did it because I love you.”
“I didn’t mean to kill anyone. I just wanted Willa to leave you.”
“You promised you’d protect me.”
Connor looked down at her.
He was still holding me in his arms.
After a few seconds, he pulled his leg free from her hand.
“The reason I won’t let him kill you isn’t to save you.”
“You need to stay alive and answer some questions.”
“Forging a governor’s order, unlawful detention, bribing guards, hiring men to commit sexual assault.”
“Blair Worthington, the investigators are going to make you explain every single part of this.”
Blair sat frozen on the floor.
Connor walked past her and carried me into the house.
As he passed, he paused.
“As for protecting you…”
“The thing I regret most is believing every tear you ever cried.”
