He Chose Her Over Me So I Chose Myself Chapter 09

Grant grabbed his phone and tore through his contacts.

Other than the Mercers, he couldn’t find a single person who might know where I had gone.

He opened my social media accounts and scrolled through the people I followed. Glass artists, used bookstores, unfamiliar studios… not one name meant anything to him.

He tried sending a few direct messages, but hesitated, unsure how to even introduce himself.

Fiancé?

The wedding was canceled.

The man she’d loved for years?

He didn’t even know who I talked to most often.

Footsteps sounded outside. My adoptive parents had followed him to the apartment. My father glanced at the empty closet, his expression not one of worry, but of offended impatience.

“Where could she have gone? Outside the Mercer family, who does she even know?”

“I don’t know.”

Grant’s voice was hoarse.

The moment the words left his mouth, the hand holding his phone began to shake.

For the first time, he realized that I had laid out my entire life in front of him, and he had never once bothered to look.

Grant turned to leave, but Camille appeared in the doorway, blocking his path.

“At this point, where else are you going to look for her?”

She looked at him, her tone so gentle it was almost matter-of-fact.

“Grant, I regret it. Before I left for Oxford, I shouldn’t have rejected you.”

Grant froze where he stood.

Camille stepped forward and lightly took his wrist.

“I know I’m the one you’ve always loved. Now that she’s gone, maybe this is a chance for all of us to start over.”
