He Chose Her Over Me So I Chose Myself Chapter 10

He Chose Her Over Me So I Chose Myself Chapter 10

By then, I had already settled into Providence.

The attic apartment I shared wasn’t large, but it had a skylight. Every day, as the sunlight slanted down, I sat at my workbench cutting glass, fitting deep blue, amber, and rose red into strips of lead came.

The first time my roommate saw a finished piece, she held up the little lamp and stared at it for a long time.

“June, have you seriously never studied design?”

I smiled and shook my head.

Glass was simpler than people. Get the angle right, and the light passed through. Like a color or dislike it—you never had to guess if there was another meaning hidden behind someone’s words.

I listed a few pieces on Etsy, just hoping to help cover rent. To my surprise, good reviews and new orders started arriving almost immediately.

A niche home décor blogger even recommended my work on Instagram. Within days, custom requests were pouring in, and people were willing to pay in advance and wait six weeks.

I stared at the praise, and my nose suddenly stung.

My adoptive father used to say I couldn’t read a financial report and had no head for business. Grant always said that outside the Mercer family, I’d never manage on my own.

They had said it for so long that eventually, I believed it.

But now there were people willing to pay for my eye, people willing to wait patiently for my work.

Maybe I wasn’t as useless as they had made me think.
