The Prince Let Me Die Now He Begs For My Love Chapter 04

I couldn’t understand why Evelyn would do that to me.

She was born before my father formally bonded with his official mate, but my mother still raised her as her own.

When I got into trouble as a child, Evelyn used to cover for me.

But no matter how deep our sisterly bond had once been, in her eyes, it clearly meant less than the status the Crown could bring.

After Adrian inherited the throne, he formally confirmed me as Asteria’s only Luna Queen in accordance with the political marriage contract.

At the same time, he kept Evelyn in the royal family’s private residential wing, publicly granting her his protection and resources.

She was only King Adrian’s favored private mate—a favor that was the most public betrayal of our marriage.

Toward me, his expression was always cold.

“Since the Queen Mother chose you, you will continue to carry out the duties of Luna Queen.”

“But remember this: you are only the Queen the Crown requires.”

“The royal schedule, Pack delegates, staff, and charitable projects are all yours to manage. If anything goes wrong, I will hold you accountable.”

Still, I refused to give up. I tried one last time.

“You can examine the stitching on that old wrist guard. I’m clearly the one who made it.”

That sentence resulted in Mia being publicly suspended by the Royal Guard.

On charges of spreading royal rumors, Adrian had her detained in the secure zone for thirty days of investigation and permanently revoked her access to Royal Castle.

She was my personal assistant and the only person willing to testify for me.

After watching them drag her away, I never dared bring up the letters again.

I threw myself into my work as Luna Queen.

I was the first to arrive at the office and the last to leave, terrified of giving him a single reason to find fault.

Later, for reasons I never understood, Adrian gradually grew distant from Evelyn.

Twice a month, he would come to my suite and sit by the window in silence, just watching me.

His gaze was always a mixture of irritation, confusion, and a trace of bewilderment he refused to acknowledge.

But before long, there were other women by his side.

They held no formal status, just a string of private relationships caught by the media.

I had no love, only ever-heavier responsibility.

I had to look after the aging Queen Mother, receive delegates from Packs across the land, manage the royal foundation and its hundreds of staff members, and clean up after his scandals.

Werewolves healed faster than humans, but long-term sleep deprivation and constant Alpha pressure could still destroy the body.

My wolf grew weaker and weaker.

After one Royal Council breakfast meeting, I collapsed in front of every Pack delegate.

When I woke, the Royal Healer and the staff were gathered around my bed.

From their faces, I knew I didn’t have long to live.

Adrian sat down at my bedside and asked in a low voice, “Is there anything you want to say to me?”

I grabbed his sleeve and, through my tears, cursed him. “Bastard.”

Everyone in the room froze.

The Luna Queen they knew was always gentle and obedient. She would never speak to the Alpha King like that.

Adrian’s gaze stilled.

“What did you say?”

Decades of grievances came surging out all at once.

I had no strength left, but I still clutched his arm.

“You said you’d make me happy every day… said I could sleep till noon and never have to manage anything…”

But for all those years, I had lived as if I were balancing on a steel wire that could snap at any moment.

Not one day had I truly been happy.

My vision blurred until all I could make out was his rigid silhouette.

I closed my eyes, unwilling to look at him again.

“Adrian, you ruined my life.”

“If there’s a next time, I won’t ever believe you again.”
