The Diary Of An Unloved Wife Chapter 08

When the cold, mechanical voice echoed from the other end, Beckett’s entire body went stiff.

It was as if someone had punched him hard, and his body swayed so much he almost couldn’t stand.

His assistant rushed forward and caught him.

“Are you okay, sir?”

“Should I call a doctor?”

Beckett waved him off, his mind in a daze.

“No need. Leave.”

A few minutes later, everyone had left the house, leaving only the man on the sofa constantly redialing the phone.

His expression went from stiff to pale in just a matter of seconds.

Iris was gone.

He couldn’t find her anymore.

The thought consumed him, scraping at his heart like a knife.

He didn’t hesitate and got up, sprinting outside.

The whole way, he kept calling the dead number, only to hear the same disconnected message every time.

He slammed on the gas pedal and sped to the cemetery.

She had to be there!

Beckett’s hands trembled on the steering wheel. She had to still be there waiting for him!

A screeching brake sounded at the cemetery gates, and a person stumbled out of the car.

Beckett’s breathing was shaking.

However, when he stood at the high ground in front of the two tombstones with his last shred of hope, all his hopes were shattered.

No one was there.

It was completely empty…

Only the winter wind howled, blowing until his heart ached with a dull throb.

“Iris…”

He returned home in a complete daze.

Facing a house that was frighteningly quiet.

He went to the study, because that was the place Iris spent the most time.

Married for so many years, he knew Iris could never forget Felix, so he had never forced her to share his bed.

He leaned against the back of the chair and let out a long sigh.

When he tilted his head back, he noticed a strange metal box on the bookshelf across from him.

He furrowed his brows.

Was this Iris’s?

Why had he never noticed it before?
