The Diary Of An Unloved Wife Chapter 07

He opened it.

Inside was a picture of a teenage boy and girl leaning closely together. It was him and Iris in high school.

His fingertips rubbed the yellowed edges of the photograph.

His chest felt suffocatingly tight.

Ever since the day he took Iris away from Felix, he had never received an ounce of care from her.

He stepped in because that one vote in the foundation couldn’t fall into an outsider’s hands. But what he never said was that he’d wanted Felix’s place beside Iris for ten years.

When she married him, she hid on the balcony and cried.

When he brought different women home, she had no reaction at all and instead played the role of a devoted wife even more dutifully.

Even with Harlow, all she said was congratulations on having his child.

So, all his explanations got stuck in his throat.

He couldn’t say them out loud.

He thought that even if she hated him, he would keep her by his side and never let her leave.

Beckett closed his eyes.

Beneath his tense expression was sorrow he couldn’t hide.

During the fire, he wanted to explain. He wanted to tell Iris that it wasn’t that he didn’t want to save her, but that Harlow was doubled over in pain that night.

Harlow was pregnant with Mason’s child. Mason had died saving him in that accident. His last words were, “Don’t leave her alone.” Beckett believed the only way to repay that debt was to take responsibility for Harlow himself.

That day, he wanted to go back inside.

But Iris had already been carried out.

He wanted to stay by her bed.

But Harlow had been rushed to the emergency room, and the doctor said there was a risk of miscarriage. He could only choose one.

However, when he rushed over to her hospital room, he even thought that if she was even slightly angry, he could convince himself that she loved him.

But there was nothing. There was absolutely no expression on Iris’s face.

She even congratulated them…

As he thought about this, Beckett closed the locket and placed it back in the spot closest to his heart.

Only then did he get out of the car.

When he returned home, the house was completely empty.

He was momentarily stunned.

It was almost evening, and Iris still hadn’t returned…

He grabbed his assistant, unable to suppress the tightness in his voice. “Where is Mrs. Whitmore?”

His assistant was also confused.

“Mrs. Whitmore hasn’t come back since she left this morning.”

Beckett’s breath hitched. Remembering Iris’s resolute attitude toward divorce, his face went completely pale.

He hurriedly dialed that number he knew by heart.

But what he got.

Was that the number was not in service.
