My Wedding Dress In The Garage His Widow In My Home Chapter 08

Owen sat in the empty apartment all night without turning on a single light.

The ring Nora had left was still on the table. He stared at it, replaying the past few months in his mind.

That forty-eight hundred dollars had been for Nora’s mother’s ramp.

But Paige had said her landlord was threatening eviction, that Sadie couldn’t be left without a home, so he’d transferred the money. All he’d thought at the time was that Nora’s mother could wait a little longer. It had never occurred to him that without that ramp, every trip in and out of the house was a risk.

Later, he had signed the one-dollar lease, giving Paige the entire first floor of the duplex.

And then there was the kiss at the door.

He even remembered the smug satisfaction he’d felt, thinking that once Nora wired the down payment and the house was theirs, there would be nothing she could do, no matter how angry she got.

This wasn’t a matter of “not having time to discuss it.”

It was deliberate deception.

And while he was doing all of this, Nora had been sitting at the dining table, carefully comparing sofa colors on furniture websites, asking if they should add an armchair to the floor where his own mother would be staying.

Owen covered his face, a heavy weight pressing on his chest.

After a long time, he picked up his phone and opened Paige’s Instagram.

In her latest post, she was leaning against his shoulder with the caption: *My knight will always protect us.*

The comments were a flurry of flirtatious encouragement.

*You two should’ve gotten together ages ago.*

*Sadie finally has a real dad.*

Paige hadn’t denied a single one.

He stared at the selfie for a long time before finally calling her.
