My Wedding Dress In The Garage His Widow In My Home Chapter 12

Owen’s pale face was reflected faintly in the glass.

He stood there, watching until Nora’s back disappeared completely. Employees coming and going stepped around him. Only when the security guard at the front desk told him he couldn’t loiter did he finally walk out of the lobby.

That night, he didn’t drive back to Duluth. He stayed in a cheap motel nearby.

The next morning, Owen returned to the building.

He didn’t dare go inside. He just stood across the street, staring at the glass doors. As waves of people went into work, he kept hoping Nora would appear, even if just for a distant glimpse.

But lunchtime came and went, and she never emerged.

He looked at the coffee shops on the corner and realized he had no idea where to even begin looking for her.

Did she come downstairs for coffee? Go out to lunch with coworkers? Did she bring her own? Did she have a regular spot? A usual order?

They had been engaged. They had almost built a life together.

Yet he knew every one of Paige and Sadie’s needs and couldn’t even picture the shape of Nora’s most ordinary day.

Owen stood across the street for a long time.

In the end, he lowered his eyes and turned toward the train station.

He didn’t know which coffee shop she liked.

He didn’t know where she ate lunch.

He didn’t know anything at all.
