My Wedding Dress In The Garage His Widow In My Home Chapter 11
“It’s because I love you too much—I was just afraid of losing you!” Paige cried.
Owen didn’t turn back.
She wasn’t wrong. He had seen what she was doing all along and had let it happen. He could have stopped the hurt at any point. He had chosen not to.
Two weeks later, Owen showed up in the lobby of Nora’s office building.
Lena took one look at him and asked Nora in a low voice, “Want me to stay? Or should I call security?”
“I can handle it.”
Nora walked over, her expression calm. Owen’s voice was rough when he spoke.
“Nora, I’m sorry.”
“For what?” she asked. “For taking the money meant to keep my mother safe? For promising her home to someone else? Or for planning to use my down payment to make it all happen?”
Owen’s face went pale. “I wasn’t thinking straight. I just wanted to help Paige—”
“Help is temporary. What you signed was a permanent lease. Help is something you do openly. You chose deception.”
Nora looked straight at him.
“You didn’t want to save a pitiful widow. You wanted a household where she played the lady of the house and I paid the bills.”
Owen opened his mouth, but no words came out.
“Everyone saw the choice you made.” Nora swiped her badge at the security gate. “You and your family can figure things out on your own now.”
“Nora!”
She didn’t stop.
The glass doors slid shut behind her.
