My Wedding Dress In The Garage His Widow In My Home Chapter 13
Owen didn’t go back to New York.
After leaving the station, he rented a car and drove straight to Duluth.
The navigation screen glowed in the dark, but all he could think about was an email from months ago.
Nora had sent him a complete ramp design for her mother’s house, with the slope, handrail height, and three contractor bids clearly marked. At the end of the email, she had written: *Mom’s having a harder time walking. This can’t wait anymore.*
He had replied with only six words.
*Got it. I’ll take care of it.*
After that, the message had sunk to the bottom of his inbox.
By the time he reached Duluth, it was nearly evening. He didn’t check into a hotel. He went straight to the contractor Nora had originally recommended.
“I need to build an accessible ramp.” He handed over the address and the old plans. “What do I need to do?”
The contractor looked through the drawings and listed the steps. “First, you need written consent from the homeowner. Then the design plans go to the HOA for approval. Once that’s done, you apply for a city permit. After construction, it has to pass inspection.”
Owen wrote everything down, asking about the timeline and updated pricing.
None of it was complicated.
A phone call, some paperwork, a few arrangements with the crew. He could have had it all taken care of in the first week.
But that week, he had been helping Paige move.
He had done nothing.
