He Moved His Lover In I Moved My Money Out Chapter 16
The day after I arrived in Portland, my lawyer messaged me.
Richard had accepted the subpoena.
The video deposition was set for Friday morning.
That day, my new firm’s sign had just been hung on the wall. The office still smelled of fresh paint, and outside the window, the street gleamed from a spring rain.
My mentor sat at the conference table, drinking tea.
“Do you need me to step out?”
“No.”
I opened my laptop and placed the suspension notice from the arts center beside it.
The screen lit up, and Richard appeared. He was wearing a dark gray suit, with the Whitmore family’s attorney seated behind him.
When he saw me, he sighed.
“Nora, now that things have gotten to this point, nobody looks good.”
My lawyer reminded him, “Mr. Lowell, please answer only the question asked.”
“Three months ago, did you call Nora Rothman and ask her to allow Claire Bell to stay in the Newport property?”
“I was only trying to mediate as a friend.”
“During that call, you mentioned that Graham Whitmore was in contact with Cartier’s private client manager and said budget was not an issue. Who told you about those arrangements?”
Richard’s gaze shifted to the side.
“Graham, possibly.”
“Yes or no?”
“Yes.”
My lawyer turned a page.
“Why did you know Ms. Rothman disagreed with this arrangement?”
“Eleanor said she needed a little time to accept it.”
“In other words, before you described Ms. Rothman as lacking compassion, you already knew she had never agreed in the first place.”
The Whitmore attorney immediately cut in. “Objection. Leading.”
