He Moved His Lover In I Moved My Money Out Chapter 15

“Nora…” He got no further than my name before his sobs choked off the rest.

“Are you really leaving?”

“Yes.”

“Are you ever coming back?”

“No.”

The line filled with nothing but ragged breathing. After a long time, he finally rasped, “I’m sorry… Nora, I want you to be happy.”

Outside the glass wall, Graham seemed to lose all strength. He slowly slid down the wall and sat on the floor, head bowed, his shoulders shaking uncontrollably.

“Graham.”

I said his name softly.

He jerked his head up, a final flicker of hope in his eyes.

I looked at him and said, word by word, “Don’t ever let me see you again.”

Then I hung up.

I took out the SIM card I had used for eleven years and tossed it into the trash can beside me.

My mentor turned back. “Who was that?”

“A wrong number.”

I smiled and turned, pushing her wheelchair toward the gate.

The airport lights were bright, and the boarding announcement was already calling our flight. Soon enough, the passing travelers blocked the view of the bent figure beyond the glass.

I didn’t look back.

As the plane began to taxi, I reconnected to the in-flight Wi-Fi.

My lawyer’s email was at the top of my inbox.

Claire had filed an objection with the court, seeking to confirm the thirty-year lease as valid. Graham was also refusing to acknowledge that the six hundred thousand dollars had come from my premarital property.

Meanwhile, the arts center had officially rejected my application for reinstatement.

Three matters.

The same people behind all of them.

I stared at the email for a few seconds, forwarded it to the forensic accounting firm, then replied to my lawyer.

“Move to subpoena Richard Lowell.”

Three months earlier, I had tagged his number as a “potential harassment witness.”

Now it was time for that witness to speak.
