He Moved His Lover In I Moved My Money Out Chapter 20

On the day of the hearing, I didn’t go back to Boston.

At nine in the morning, I sat in my Portland office and was sworn in through the court’s video system.

Claire appeared at the petitioner’s table. She looked pale, and beside her was the original thirty-year lease.

Graham sat on the other side.

In just a few short months, gray had appeared at his temples.

The judge began, “Mr. Whitmore, when this lease was signed, was the other equity holder in the property aware of it?”

Graham looked at me on the screen.

“I thought Nora would agree.”

“Did she know at the time?”

“No.”

Claire whipped her head around.

“You told me she had already agreed.”

Graham lowered his voice. “This isn’t the time for that.”

“Then when is?” Her eyes went red instantly. “You moved me and Owen in, let me change the locks, let me invite friends to celebrate. You said it was our home!”

Her lawyer touched her arm, signaling for her to stop.

But Claire had already grabbed the lease.

“Thirty years. One dollar in rent. Your signature is right here!”

“You knew Nora had never seen this document.”

“I only found out when I saw the message at her studio!” Claire’s voice shook. “I said it right then—I thought she knew. You stepped in front of me and wouldn’t let me keep talking.”

All the color drained from Graham’s face.

The harder they argued, the clearer the truth became.
