The day the divorce was finalized, Boston was under a heavy rain.
I went back one last time.
The court confirmed the settlement agreement and completed the asset tracing based on the audit report. The six hundred thousand dollars, the audit fees, and the losses caused by the suspension would all be repaid from assets in Graham’s name.
The Newport property would be sold once it was cleared out.
My investment would be reimbursed first, and the remainder would be divided according to the judgment.
At the end, the judge asked, “Do either of you have anything further to state?”
“No,” I said.
But Graham stood up.
“I do.”
His lawyer tried to pull him back, but he shrugged him off.

“But I want you to know I never really thought I would lose you. I just believed that no matter what I did, you would still be there.”
“So you used my money to give Claire a home.”
His lips turned white.
“I thought I could arrange everything.”
