You Shipped Me Off I Married Your Boss Chapter 12

Zoey’s call came just as the car neared the Campbell estate.

“Zoey? What’s going on?”

“Skylar, I went to Brian about the brooch like you said. He refused to give it to me. Said if you really want it, you have to ask him yourself.”

I glanced at Liam beside me.

A strange pang of guilt hit.

We were still strangers.

He was polished. Refined. Warm, even.

But the pressure radiating from him was impossible to ignore.

In the car, he’d taken a work call. Switched effortlessly between English, French, Spanish.

Issued orders with crisp finality.

That Ivy League, old-money aura. It made me feel young. Awkward.

I wasn’t a quiet person by nature.

But around Liam, I somehow became demure.

Before I could answer Zoey, Brian’s voice cut through the line.

“Skylar. Do you want the brooch, or are you just here to cause trouble?”

I froze. Then a cold laugh escaped me.

“If this is about sabotaging my engagement to Natalie, don’t waste your time.”

“If it’s about the brooch, then you’ll take it back the same way you gave it to me.”

“Something that important shouldn’t be left to someone else.”

I took a breath, forcing my voice steady.

“Zoey is my best friend. You can give it to her. I’ll take full responsibility.”

Brian laughed.

“How much clearer do I need to be, Skylar? The same way you gave it to me. That’s how you’ll take it back.”
