You Shipped Me Off I Married Your Boss Chapter 02

Brian moved out of the Crawford estate.

Moved in with Natalie.

The day he left, I was at school, buried in my senior design defense.

He’d picked that day on purpose.

To keep me from causing trouble.

But this time, I didn’t go running after him. I didn’t cry.

Just a sharp, fine ache bloomed in my chest.

I took a breath. Forced it down. Hard.

That evening, a few classmates and I hit a campus bar for a graduation get-together.

I ran into Natalie on my way to the bathroom.

“Skylar. Brian’s here too. Do you want to come say hi?”

I shook my head.

“Already made plans with friends. I’ll pass.”

Her eyes suddenly welled up.

“Skylar, my background isn’t great. Mr. and Mrs. Crawford never liked me. Could you please stop badmouthing me to them?”

I stared at her, caught completely off guard.

“Natalie, I’ve never said a word about you to them.”

She smiled, but it was a bitter, fragile thing.

“I know you’ve loved Brian for years. I understand this is hard for you to accept.”

“But Skylar, we’re both women. Shouldn’t we at least try to be decent to each other?”

I take after my mother. Direct. No talent for games.

Her words lit a fire in me.

“Natalie, don’t you dare make things up—”

Before I could finish, her legs buckled. She dropped to her knees.

“Skylar, please. I’m begging you.”

I flinched, reaching down to pull her up.

But I never even touched her.

She collapsed hard onto the floor.

“Skylar. What the hell are you doing?”

Brian’s voice hit me like a wall of rage.

Then a violent shove sent me stumbling.

My knee slammed into the edge of the wall.

The pain was blinding.
