You Shipped Me Off I Married Your Boss Chapter 14
“Is something wrong?”
Liam’s voice startled me.
I looked up. Met his eyes. Dark. Deep.
Shame twisted in my gut.
I didn’t want to hide it.
But we barely knew each other. I couldn’t force the words out.
“Nothing.”
I shook my head.
I’d ask Mr. Crawford for help. Get it back somehow.
The plan steadied me.
“Really. Just a minor issue with the Crawfords.”
I forced a light smile.
“I can handle it.”
Liam didn’t press.
“All right. But if it gets complicated, Skylar—you can always come to me.”
“After all, you’re my fiancée now.”
He said it so naturally. Like Aunt Helen did.
Not the first time.
Still, heat crept up my ears.
Fiancée. The word alone sent warmth down the back of my neck.
I was engaged. Two weeks. Then I’d marry him.
Something sour and sweet tangled in my chest.
Faint. But there. A thread of hope.
I didn’t dare meet his eyes. Just shot him a quick glance, nodded, made a soft sound of agreement.
Liam didn’t push further.
The car pulled into the Campbells’ estate in the Forest Lake area.
The door opened. He stepped out first, then turned and offered me his hand.
I noticed his ring. The one he’d worn since that day.
He never took it off.
Liam helped me down.
And didn’t let go. His fingers laced through mine. Natural. Effortless.
