I Made His Wife’s Dress Now I’ll Marry Another Chapter 23

Julien moved to the window to make the call.

In Paris, he had always been like this. The more difficult the problem, the lower his voice became, as if any chaos in his hands could be broken down into clean, precise pattern pieces.

Once, I caught an atelier hiding labor hours across two sets of books, preventing an entire order from being seized. Later, Julien transferred part of that atelier’s equity to its workers and put my name before his on the investigation report.

I told him it had only been a small thing.

He had said, “Respect shouldn’t be omitted for convenience.”

When that investigation was over, Julien didn’t ask me to stay with the foundation. He handed over the evidence, the contacts, and every cent I had earned, then let me choose my next job for myself. That was why I had dared to call him last night. I knew he would come.

I also knew he would never try to take something from me while I was at my most vulnerable.

The door to my mother’s room opened suddenly.

Adrian came out. His tie was loosened, his cuffs streaked with soup stains. He looked like a man who had just escaped a disastrous runway show.

He stopped in front of me. “She admitted Leo might not be mine.”
