I Made His Wife’s Dress Now I’ll Marry Another Chapter 24

“After the centennial party six years ago, I went back to the hotel drunk,” Adrian said, his voice rough. “When I woke up the next morning, Sabine was in bed beside me. A few weeks later, she came to me with a pregnancy test and said that if I didn’t take responsibility, she’d jump from the roof of the show venue.”

“So you took responsibility.”

“The keycard logs, the surveillance footage, the gestational timing—it all matched. She also knew I kept your size card in the inner pocket of my jacket. I thought only someone who had been in the room with me could have seen that.”

“She had been in the room.”

“I didn’t know how to prove that I hadn’t done it.” He looked at me, his eyes pleading. “I didn’t dare let a child grow up branded as illegitimate. And I couldn’t ask a pregnant woman to prove her story to the media.”

“So you made your fiancée bear all the consequences.”

“At the time, I thought if I claimed all the fault, then at least you wouldn’t be dragged through a public scandal.”

“But you never asked me. Before the show had even ended, you had your PR team announce the engagement. You sent me your first email explaining it all the next day. That wasn’t protection. That was you deciding I was strong enough to be the last person told.”

He closed his eyes.

“Yes.”

That one word was more honest than any excuse he could have offered.
