I Made His Wife’s Dress Now I’ll Marry Another Chapter 25

“I’ve done three paternity tests over the years,” Adrian said. “The first two came back contaminated. Sabine refused to allow a formal sample to be taken from Leo. Under New York’s presumption of paternity, I was his legal father the entire time we were married.”

“You could have sought a court order.”

“I could have. But that would have exposed Leo to the tabloids. And at the time, it would have also destroyed Whitmore’s only public face.”

I looked at him. “So you decided for everyone. Again.”

After a moment, he said, “Leo calls me Dad. I was afraid a test would destroy more than just a marriage.”

“Then admit you chose to protect him,” I said, “instead of dressing it up as waiting for me. A child shouldn’t be punished for adult lies. And you don’t get to use him as the reason you never fought for the truth.”

His face had gone gray.

For the first time since I’d returned, I said his name. “Adrian, your pain is real. But that doesn’t make the way you love people right.”
