Regrets Of What Was Lost Chapter 08

Savannah. Twenty-six. MBA from the University of Chicago.

Young, beautiful, smart, with a bright future ahead of her.

After Tucker got involved with her, it took him less than three years to promote her from a junior staffer to a manager.

And she said all the things women in her position always say.

“I’m not with you for the money.”

“I know you have a family. I won’t interfere.”

“I don’t care about a title. As long as I can see you every day, that’s enough.”

People who get involved in other people’s marriages all seem to work from the same script.

First, they claim they want nothing.

Then, little by little, they start wanting more.

Tucker felt guilty because he thought he couldn’t give her a future.

And I became the obstacle they had to push out of the way.

Well, that part was solved now.

I would let this man go.

All she had to do was buy this house, and she could be with him, out in the open.

A top-tier MBA. Twenty-seven years old. A career on the rise.

Ten days left.

Tucker had to find someone to take that house.

No friend or brother was going to risk a million dollars for him.

A man who would abandon his wife and child wasn’t worth that kind of gamble.

At this point, the only person still likely to stand by him was that beautiful girl.

When it’s only about feelings, everything is easy.

All two people have to do is date, hold each other, and whisper sweet nothings.

But once money gets involved—especially this much money—most people wake up fast.

I didn’t know how much Tucker had given her over the years.

But if she bought that house, she’d be tying herself to a six-hundred-thousand-dollar mortgage.

If she refused, she’d look like she didn’t love him enough, like she wasn’t willing to bear any real cost for their relationship.

What would she choose?

I was very curious to find out.
