Regrets Of What Was Lost Chapter 10
Savannah’s hand stiffened, then slowly slipped out of mine.
“Tucker, that house is where you and she lived for three years. Every time I walked into a room, I’d be thinking of her. I can’t do that.”
“Then we won’t live there,” I said immediately.
“Once you buy it, we’ll rent it out. We can keep living here. When things stabilize, I’ll buy us a new place and you can renovate it however you want. Okay?”
Savannah looked up at me. There was none of the gratitude I’d expected in her eyes.
“Let me… think about it.”
“What is there to think about?”
I genuinely didn’t understand.
“Don’t you want to marry me?”
Savannah’s mouth opened, a flustered look on her face.
“I… of course I do, but—”
“No buts.”
I cut her off.
“We’re taking care of this tomorrow. I don’t want to drag this out for another day.”
The next day, I brought Savannah to the conference room the real estate agent had arranged.
Zinnia sat across from us.
I pushed my phone across the table, showing her the transfer receipt.
“The down payment is there. As we agreed, once the house is sold, I’ll pay off the mortgage and transfer you your two hundred thousand. Sign it.”
Zinnia glanced at the screenshot and nodded.
“All right. Let’s begin.”
Transfer funds. Sign the contract. Transfer the title.
Every step went almost absurdly smoothly.
As agreed, I wired two hundred thousand dollars to her account.
At that point, the whole thing was finally over.
But after all the paperwork was done, Zinnia didn’t get up right away.
She slipped the contract into her bag and slowly raised her eyes to meet mine.
“Now that you have the cash on hand, how about we settle the next ten-plus years of child support in one lump sum? About five hundred thousand. After that, you won’t have to worry about Chloe, and we won’t come looking for you.”
“What?”
