Regrets Of What Was Lost Chapter 12
After I found Savannah, I took her to my friend Alex’s law office.
I hadn’t wanted her to come.
But she insisted.
Once we got to his office, I walked him through everything that had happened.
When I finished, Alex leaned back in his chair and clapped twice, slowly.
“Honestly, Zinnia’s play was tight. She used your affair to transform a marital debt between the two of you into a personal debt that now belongs, very neatly, to your girlfriend.”
At that, Savannah’s shoulders gave a small tremor.
I shot him a glare.
“I asked you to help me solve this, not to praise her.”
Alex took a sip of coffee, then looked at Savannah again.
“All I can tell you is this: from start to finish, Zinnia only exercised rights the law already gave her. She didn’t violate procedure, she didn’t delay anything, and she didn’t threaten you. Every step she took was by the book.”
“Even if you’d come to me first, it wouldn’t have changed much. Because you were the one who cheated. From the day you asked for a divorce, she was running the numbers. You can’t change that.”
I frowned.
“So does what she did count as fraud?”
Alex’s gaze settled on Savannah, an unreadable edge in his eyes.
“Hard to argue.”
“If this were a standard commercial contract, maybe you could argue misrepresentation or concealment of material facts. But in a divorce negotiation, this just looks like strategy. It would be very hard to win.”
