His Fake Proposal Led Me To My Real Husband Chapter 04
When the doors opened, the ballroom was buzzing with conversation.
Julian led me straight toward the temporary stage at the front of the room.
The guests noticed him and turned, a ripple of whispered questions passing through the crowd.
I’d already notified the host. He picked up the microphone and followed the new script.
“Please welcome today’s happy couple.”
He hadn’t finished the sentence when the side door was shoved open.
Mason stood in the doorway.
His friends were crowded behind him.
I was in my gown, my arm linked with Julian’s, when my eyes met Mason’s.
The lazy confidence on Mason’s face dissolved, first into confusion, then shock.
“Rebecca!”
His voice wasn’t loud, but the entire ballroom fell silent.
My mother was sitting at the first table, both hands clutching the tablecloth. I met her gaze and gave her a small, reassuring nod.
Mason stared at my hand, clasped in Julian’s.
His voice was tight with rage.
“What are you doing?”
I stopped.
“It’s an engagement ceremony. Can’t you tell?”
“Who are you getting engaged to?”
Only then did his gaze shift to Julian’s face. Two seconds later, recognition dawned, and his brow furrowed even deeper.
“Julian Cavendish?”
“Rebecca, are you insane?”
“You’re getting engaged to *him*?”
I asked, “Is there a problem?”
Tyler finally caught up, shouting from behind Mason, “What is this, some kind of act? You just grabbed some random guy to stand up there with you? An engagement isn’t a damn party game.”
Julian turned and looked at Tyler.Â
