His Fake Proposal Led Me To My Real Husband Chapter 37

After Tyler’s compensation came through, I didn’t keep any of it.

The portion for my mother was hers to decide what to do with.

She held the check in her hand and stared at it for a long time.

“I want to donate it to the community center.”

“Are you sure?”

“I am.”

She smiled.

“Don’t they need gifts?”

In mid-December, we delivered the thousand gold boxes.

Some were filled with gloves, some with candy, and some with cards that children had written to their families.

The box with the lid that wouldn’t quite close was chosen by a little girl.

A staff member wanted to swap it for a different one.

The girl hugged the box and said, “I like this one. It looks like I made it myself.”

I stood there smiling.

There had never been anything wrong with the boxes.

The people at fault were the ones who threw someone else’s sincerity onto the floor.

At the end of the event, Caroline Whitfield came by.

She hadn’t brought an assistant. She was just wearing an ordinary black coat.

“My mother donates here every year,” she explained. “I didn’t expect to run into you.”

I handed the last box of cards to a staff member.

“Thank you for what happened with the investment committee.”

“You don’t need to thank me.”

She looked at me.

“Westbrook’s proposal didn’t fail because of you. It failed because their answers didn’t hold up under scrutiny.”

“Patricia still thinks I caused it.”

“She needs to think that.”

Caroline’s tone was light.
