Everyone Betrayed Me While I Carried His Baby Chapter 07
It was Rhys who had burst in, who had snatched the knife from my hand and carried me to his car, speeding to the hospital.
He had apologized the entire way.
“It’s my fault. I was too late.”
“I was in London for a client meeting when I saw that apology video you posted. I knew something was wrong.”
“I took the first flight back, but I was still one step behind.”
I raised a hand to stop him.
“It’s not your fault. I’m just grateful you came.”
Rhys and I had been classmates in college.
We were always competing for the top spot in our program.
Everyone assumed we hated each other.
But on graduation day, he showed up with a bouquet of Lego flowers and confessed.
“Seren, I’m going to Oxford for my doctorate. Will you come with me?”
The whole room had buzzed with excitement.
But I had looked past him, to Cassian, who was waiting for me at the back of the auditorium.
“I’m sorry,” I’d said. “The person I love is waiting for me.”
Before Rhys left, he gave me a phone number.
He told me that if anything ever happened, I could always call him.
I had refused without a second thought.
I was too young then. I thought Cassian and I were forever.
Seven years later, I had lost everything.
I raised a hand, wiped the tears from my face, and glanced at the box on the nightstand.
“Don’t worry. I’m not giving up.”
“I’m going to make them pay for what they did.”
“For their daughter’s christening tomorrow, I’ve prepared a few gifts.”
