Everyone Betrayed Me While I Carried His Baby Chapter 08
Their daughter’s christening was held at the most expensive hotel in the city.
The venue, the decorations—it was all from the plan I had designed for my own child.
Onstage, Jenna held the baby and leaned into Cassian’s arms as she thanked the guests.
“Thank you all for coming today to celebrate our daughter’s christening—”
“Aren’t you going to thank me?”
Every head in the room turned.
Into the sudden silence, I walked onto the stage.
“Without me, how could either of you be standing here today?”
“Seeing you so happy, I’m happy for you, too. So I brought a couple of gifts.”
“Cassian, aren’t you going to open it?”
I took a box from my bag and set it down in front of him.
“Seren!”
He rushed toward me, his eyes wide with surprise and a deep, unsettling fear.
He looked me up and down, as if checking for injuries.
“Where did you go yesterday? I looked everywhere for you.”
“We misunderstood. It was a mistake. Let me see your hand—”
I pushed him away and held the box out to him again.
“Open it.”
“Okay.”
Cassian put down his microphone, took the box, and carefully lifted the lid.
He took one look inside, and all the color drained from his face.
It was a glass jar filled with formaldehyde.
Floating inside was our child, still and perfect at eight months.
The umbilical cord drifted in the fluid.
He looked up at me, his eyes filled with terror.
“Seren, what is this?”
“That is your child.”
