Everyone Betrayed Me While I Carried His Baby Chapter 09

I took the jar and held it up for him to see.

The baby was fully formed. I could already make out her features.

If I hadn’t miscarried, she would have been a quiet, beautiful little girl.

My vision blurred. My voice cracked.

“Cassian Lombardi, this is our daughter. The one you killed with your own two hands yesterday.”

“Today, her father is here celebrating another child’s new life. I thought I should bring her along so she could see for herself who killed her.”

“No… I didn’t mean to…”

Cassian sank to the floor, clutching the box, his eyes a frightening shade of red.

He started to crawl toward me, his voice a choked sob.

“Seren, it’s my fault. I’ll do anything. Please, don’t say that. I didn’t mean it. I didn’t—”

“Seren, did you have to pick today to make a scene?”

Adriana grabbed my shoulder, her brow furrowed in disapproval.

“We can talk about the baby later. This is Angela’s christening. There are too many people here. You need to leave.”

My parents came over, too.

They glanced at the jar in my hand, their expressions conflicted, but they still took hold of my arms.

“Seren, Mom and Dad know you’ve been wronged.”

“But you can’t ruin Angela’s party. You’ll upset Jenna.”

I already knew what they would choose.

But hearing the words still felt like a fist closing around my heart.

I lifted my head, blinked back my tears, and forced a smile.

“Didn’t I tell you? I came to give gifts.”

“And on an occasion like this, how could the baby’s grandfather not be here?”
