He Gave My Ring To Her Now He Wears His Regret Chapter 13

The year we graduated, I had asked him, “Do your friends not like me?”

He had wrapped his arms around me.

“It doesn’t matter. As long as I’m here, you’re here.”

“I’ll make them accept you.”

Seven years had passed.

He never did.

He had stood on their side and watched as I drew one blank card after another.

A month later, Marco received an email.

It was from my new email address, sent to all five of them.

There were no accusations. No long, emotional explanation.

Only an itemized invoice.

Flights, hotel, yacht rental, restaurants, and a line item for photography services from the trip.

I had listed, line by line, each person’s share of the cost.

At the bottom were only two sentences.

> Please send payment via Zelle to the account below.

> After that, we’re even.

Marco was furious. He called Nico immediately.

“Is Virginia serious? We go on one trip as friends, and now she’s nickel-and-diming us?”

Nico’s voice was flat.

“Pay her.”

Marco froze.

“But she’s always been the one to pay first.”

“Then pull up the records for everything else, too.”

Marco fell silent.

They quickly realized that, over the years, for everything from big trips to small dinners, I had almost always been the one to put the charge on my card first.

Sometimes they forgot to pay me back. I never asked.

So, naturally, they began to act as if the debt never existed.

Added up over seven years, it was a substantial amount.

Leo couldn’t help but mutter, “It’s not like Virginia’s family is short on cash. Why does she care about this?”

Nico looked at him.

“She doesn’t care about the money.”

She just wanted to settle the accounts.

After this, no one would owe anyone anything.

That realization scared him more than any fight ever could.

Before, I would get jealous. I would demand explanations. I would fight for my place.

That was because I still wanted to be in the relationship.

Now, I wanted nothing at all.
