He Gave My Ring To Her Now He Wears His Regret Chapter 16

I had waited a very long time to hear those words.

If he had said them sooner, maybe things would have ended differently.

The first time I was left behind.

The first time I watched the five of them take a photo without me.

The first time I realized my own birthday was less important than one of Alessia’s breakups.

If he had said it back then, I might have turned back.

But now, all I did was answer calmly.

“You don’t have to change anything for me.”

“Who you love, who you choose, who you stand with—that has nothing to do with me anymore.”

Nico clenched the ring so tightly the metal edge bit into his palm.

“Do you really not love me at all anymore?”

I was silent for a few seconds.

“I did love you.”

Something flickered in his eyes, a brief spark of hope.

Then I continued.

“But after seven blank cards, there wasn’t much left.”

Nico didn’t leave right away.

He stayed in that small town for two weeks.

Every day, he showed up at our filming locations, helping the crew carry equipment, handing out water, checking on the vehicles.

He did all the little things that I had once done for his group.

It didn’t make me say a single extra word to him.
