His Number Changed So I Changed My Life Chapter 19

I looked at him and let out a short, bitter laugh.

He was apologizing while still protecting the person who had hurt my family.

“Parker, how did Madison know my mother’s address?”

His body went rigid.

After a long silence, he mumbled, “She asked me for it once. I didn’t think anything of it, so I told her.”

“You didn’t think anything of it.”

I repeated his words back to him.

“You knew she was hostile toward me. You also knew my mother has a heart condition.”

“Parker, she treated you like a son. How could you give her address to Madison?”

My tears started falling again.

Parker reached out to wipe them away. I flinched back and wiped my own face.

“Madison knew there was a restraining order. I’m calling the police.”

“No.” Parker’s expression hardened. “If she gets arrested for violating the order, her career is over.”

He lowered his voice.

“She didn’t know your mother had a heart condition. She just wanted to explain things. She never meant to hurt anyone. And your mother is fine now.”

I slapped him, hard, across the left side of his face.

“That’s for betraying my mother’s trust.”

Then I slapped his right cheek.

“And that’s for betraying our marriage.”

Two red handprints bloomed on his skin.

My palm stung. Parker stared at me as if he’d never seen me before.

In the past, if he got so much as a paper cut, I would rush to find a bandage. Now, I didn’t feel a shred of remorse.

“From now on, there is no debt between us,” I said. “But Madison has to answer for what she did.”

“Don’t make me hate you, Charlotte.”
