His Number Changed So I Changed My Life Chapter 23

I didn’t agree right away.

The screenshot of Victor’s message was short. I had looked at it dozens of times. I remembered every word.

At the time, he had offered a hollow apology while warning me not to hurt Parker.

Later, he had asked me to publicly clear Parker’s name.

Not once had he asked how my mother and I were doing.

“I have a direct connection to the subject,” I said. “It’s a conflict of interest.”

My editor sat down across from me.

“That’s why you won’t be making content decisions alone. Another editor will handle verification, and legal will review every sentence. Every conclusion we publish has to be backed by police reports, court records, and the materials you’ve already provided.”

She tapped the stack of papers.

“You can say no. But don’t let them silence you just because someone once told you to keep quiet.”

I took the file home.

There was nothing in it I hadn’t seen before.

The photos posted by the anonymous accounts, the threatening messages I’d submitted to the police, the security footage from my apartment, the restraining order, and the record of Madison receiving it—all arranged in chronological order.
