The Stolen Savior: He Loved The Wrong Sister Chapter 07
Nora had given up on Lucian completely. Over the next few days, she focused on searching for the private video Lucian had taken.
Once she deleted it, she would leave immediately. She didn’t want to stay here a second longer.
But she’d searched every electronic device in the house and couldn’t find it.
She’d even gone through Lucian’s phone while he was asleep.
The only thing left unchecked was the laptop in Lucian’s study.
That laptop was for Lucian’s business. No one else was allowed to touch it. Nora had tried to open it when Lucian wasn’t home, but it was password-protected. She tried several passwords, but none of them worked.
She was still pondering what Lucian might use as his password when Snowball’s barking erupted from downstairs.
Then came Camille’s furious voice. “You damn mutt! You try to bite me every time you see me! Today I’m going to teach you a lesson!”
Nora held back as long as she could. In the end, she couldn’t help herself and went downstairs to stop Camille from hurting Snowball.
The moment Snowball saw Nora, he leaped into her arms, perfectly behaved.
The sight made Camille nearly explode with rage. She glared at Nora with pure venom, then smiled coldly.
Nora guessed Camille would come after her again. But she didn’t care anymore. She was leaving soon anyway. Let Camille do whatever she wanted.
What Nora never expected was that Camille’s next target would be Snowball.
That afternoon, Snowball suddenly collapsed in his dog bed, foaming at the mouth, his body rigid, unable to even whimper.
Everyone in the house panicked. Snowball was Lucian’s most treasured pet. He treated that dog like his own son. Once, when some reckless rich kid kicked Snowball, Lucian grabbed the nearest object and beat the guy half to death.
Normally, Lucian was an iceberg who wouldn’t blink if the sky fell. But if anyone touched Snowball, he became violent and ruthless. Beating someone half to death was him showing restraint. If no one pulled him off, he’d beat them to death.
The Hawthorne household descended into chaos. The estate manager immediately called a vet. Lucian had been at a business dinner, but the moment he heard about Snowball, he rushed home.
The air in the house was cold enough to freeze. Lucian’s expression was murderous.
“Mr. Hawthorne, the test results are in.” The vet was sweating. “Snowball was poisoned. He ate a bone laced with toxin.”
In an instant, every gaze in the room turned to Nora.
Because Snowball only ate food given to him by Nora and Lucian.
Nora’s face went deathly pale. Shaking, she shook her head. “It wasn’t me. I love Snowball more than anything. Why would I poison him?”
Snowball was her baby too.
Seeing him lying there foaming at the mouth, her heart was breaking.
But no one believed her. Lucian advanced step by step, his cold fury suffocating.
“Why did you do it?” He grabbed Nora by the throat, squeezing so hard it felt like he wanted to snap her neck. “Because I scolded you, you decided to poison Snowball?”
Tears poured down Nora’s face. “I didn’t. I swear I didn’t.”
“Don’t lie to me. Snowball wouldn’t eat anything from anyone else!” In his rage, Lucian threw Nora to the floor.
Her head hit the corner of the table. Blood poured out instantly.
Camille was the first to pounce.
“You fat pig! Snowball is so sweet—how could you do this to him?”
“Ugly body, uglier heart!”
The people Camille had brought with her piled on, cursing Nora while beating her savagely.
Camille grabbed a golf club from the corner and brought it down on Nora’s back.
The others grew even bolder. Fists and clubs rained down on Nora until she was covered in blood.
The head of security stood at the door, looking to Lucian, waiting for a word.
Lucian said nothing. He simply bent down and picked up Snowball—the only thing he cared about tonight.
He carried Snowball out, never once looking back at Nora. Just before the car door closed, he tossed out one cold sentence. “Don’t kill her.”
Nora shattered completely in that moment.
His last mercy was leaving her alive.
The side hall was at the far end of the estate. Once the heavy door closed, no sound could escape. The head of security had received no instructions, so he guarded the corridor—no one in, no one out. The beating went on until midnight, when the people Camille had brought finally dispersed.
Nora lay on the floor, covered in blood, unable to stand for a long time.
After several attempts, she finally managed to pull herself up, trembling, using the wall for support. The corridor was empty. The heavy door stood open—the person who’d guarded it all night had also gone.
She limped into the living room and retrieved a tiny camera from one of the potted plants.
Ever since discovering Camille had been drugging her, Nora had planted micro cameras around the Hawthorne estate to protect herself in case Camille tried again.
She only learned later that the estate’s proper surveillance system had a two-hour gap that night. The logs showed someone with admin access had deleted the footage. Only three people could use that access level that evening.
Nora went through the living room, collecting the micro cameras one by one. Then she opened her laptop and played back the footage.
She wanted to know too. Snowball only ate food from her and Lucian. Since neither of them would poison him, how had Snowball been poisoned?
The footage gave her the answer.
Camille had hidden a poisoned bone inside Nora’s clothes and tossed them into the living room.
Snowball caught Nora’s scent on the clothes and assumed the bone was a treat from her. So he happily gnawed on it.
Tears slipped down Nora’s face before she even realized. So that was how.
Camille was terrifyingly cruel.
Thankfully, the micro camera had captured the truth. Clutching it, Nora limped to Lucian’s study.
She still hadn’t figured out the password to Lucian’s laptop.
But it didn’t matter anymore.
Nora placed the micro camera in an envelope and left a single note for Lucian.
“The truth about Snowball’s poisoning is inside. Since I helped you find the truth, please delete that video.”
She wrote only that one cold sentence as her goodbye.
No farewell. Not a hint of reluctance. Only a request to delete the video.
Their love had always been a premeditated joke. Saying she couldn’t let go would only make her seem more pathetic.
Nora gave a bitter smile and left the Hawthorne estate under the cover of darkness.
Aunt Nadine had actually booked her flight for tomorrow afternoon. But Nora couldn’t wait any longer. She bought a ticket for that same night and boarded a plane to Canada.
Lucian, I won’t say goodbye. I hope we truly never meet again.
The two-hundred-pound me is done with you. And the thinner me won’t spare you a single glance either.Â
