My Fiancé Sent Me To Another Man On Our Wedding Day Chapter 05
Rafael went on, “Once her family’s situation is resolved, once that old man passes away, I’ll bring you back. Everything can go back to the way it was. Trust me.”
“I don’t need you to bring me back,” I snapped, my anger finally boiling over. “Rafael, I just want my mother’s bracelet. Give it back to me.”
Before he could answer, the line went dead.
A dial tone droned in my ear.
Chloe’s eyes were red with fury.
“He is unbelievable.”
The words were barely out of her mouth when a deafening crash exploded ahead of us.
A massive truck jackknifed, and the cars in front of us slammed into each other in a chain reaction.
Our limousine was caught in the middle, the frame twisting instantly around us.
The airbags deployed.
Chloe and I were pinned in our seats, unable to move.
The truck had caught fire, and the flames were spreading fast.
Rafael saw the wreckage, shoved his car door open, and sprinted toward us.
But at that exact moment, a scream came from behind him.
“Rafael! I’m bleeding!”
He froze.
He looked back at Margot.
Then he turned and ran to her.
I screamed his name with every ounce of strength I had.
“Rafael!”
When he turned back to face me, I could barely get the words out.
“If you go to her now, we are really over.”
Rafael stood there, a flicker of hesitation on his face.
In the end, he made his choice.
“Helena,” he said, his voice strained, “Margot’s always been fragile. I have to get her to a hospital.”
Then he helped Margot to her feet and walked away without a backward glance.
Years ago, he’d made another promise.
He’d said, “No matter what happens, I will always choose you first.”
Now, I was no longer his first choice.
Watching his back disappear, I understood something with perfect clarity.
No matter who I married, it could never be worse than staying with Rafael.
