The Underboss Voted No So I Chose A New Life Chapter 27
“Which is why I returned Hadrian’s transfer later.”
She paused.
“If you don’t want the money, then why hand over the records?”
“Because not wanting the money doesn’t mean it never happened.”
“Leo didn’t fail on purpose back then. He’s followed Hadrian for years. If nothing else, that should count for something.”
That was when I suddenly understood why she was calling.
After leaving me behind, she hadn’t gotten the position within the Family she’d imagined.
Now that Leo was being investigated, she wanted to use her connection as my sister to preserve one last path for herself.
“What do you need him for?”
The line went quiet.
Sarah quickly raised her voice. “I’m trying to think of what’s best for everyone.”
“Then let everyone answer for themselves.”
I hung up and blocked that number, too.
The next day, the adviser sent me the review results.
The debt had indeed come from Leo’s nightclub, Hadrian had been the guarantor, and I had been the one to repay it.
There were no new charges. No one was taken away.
The boss made only one decision.
From now on, Leo was not to use his core-member status to ask anyone to guarantee his private business dealings, and he was barred from handling any Family financial projects.
The position he’d gained through Hadrian’s indulgence ended there.
Leo accused Hadrian on the spot.
“You wrote the IOU, and you had Mireille put up the money. Why am I the only one getting punished?”
Hadrian put the IOU in front of him.
“Because I already gave up the underboss ring.”
“You lost a position. What am I supposed to do now?”
“Take responsibility for yourself.”
It was the first time Hadrian had ever refused Leo without blaming me.
But this time, I didn’t need him to.
