The Underboss Voted No So I Chose A New Life Chapter 26

I stared at the attachment for a long time.

I remembered every date on that repayment sheet.

When the first payment went through, my mother’s gold bracelet had just been sent to auction.

Hadrian had held me and said that once we got through this, he would never again let me shoulder anything for someone else.

Later, I learned that in his mind, “someone else” did not include his inner circle.

The adviser asked in the email if I was willing to appear for the review.

I replied:

*I will not appear in person. If you need the payment details confirmed, I can provide a written statement.*

I sent over the original payment records from back then, the IOU Hadrian had written, and the record showing he later tried to send me the two hundred thousand dollars, which I had returned.

Those records had never disappeared.

I just had never thought the people at the long table needed to see them.

That afternoon, Sarah called from a different number.

“Why did you have to dredge up that old debt?”

“I didn’t.”

“The adviser already called Leo in for questioning. That nightclub closed years ago and the debt was paid off. What’s the point of chasing it now?”

Her tone was exactly the same as it had always been.

Whenever someone else had to pay for their choices, she came to tell me to let it go.

“Sarah, I only answered the adviser’s question.”

“But you paid that two hundred thousand voluntarily.”
