My Guardian Married My Sister But I’m His Alpha Chapter 20
“I never nodded. My wolf never accepted him. What, exactly, did you agree to on my behalf?”
Francesca’s eyelashes trembled, and her eyes began to redden.
“Chiara, I was only trying to do what was best for you.”
“You have to choose a Pack eventually. Riverbend is stable. I honestly didn’t know he had a child. That was my mistake.”
She never truly apologized.
She only ever said, *I was doing it for your own good.*
She only ever said, *I didn’t know.*
Then she would look at you with those wide, tear-filled eyes until you felt like the cruel one.
“Francesca.” Chiara’s voice was flat. “What are you trying to say?”
Francesca lowered her head, twisting the hem of her coat between her fingers.
“Grandpa wants you to come home tonight. You need to explain yourself about Sterling.”
“I’ll go back,” Chiara said. “But not today.”
“Then when?”
“When I feel like it.”
Francesca was silent for a moment, then met her gaze.
“Chiara, do you even know Sterling? He and Griffin have always been rivals. Are you sure he isn’t just using you to gain leverage over Nightfall?”
And there it was.
Francesca wasn’t afraid that Sterling might be using her.
She was afraid that he might be real.
She was afraid there was another Alpha in the world who, without waiting for Chiara to beg or bargain, would simply stand at her side.
“My business is my own.” Chiara turned and walked toward the elevator.
“Chiara,” Francesca called after her, “I’m just worried you’ll get hurt. Griffin is worried about you, too.”
The elevator doors slid shut.
Chiara leaned back against the cool metal wall and closed her eyes.
Griffin was worried about her?
The man who had proposed to her sister right after her father’s funeral.
The man who had spent three years as Francesca’s husband while running Nightfall.
The man who chose Francesca every single time.
What right did he have to be worried about her?
