The Wedding Game That Cost Him Everything Chapter 09

The phone changed hands five times.

Only after the fifth person had cursed themselves breathless did Tucker finally ask in a low voice, “Can any of you tell me where Isolde went?”

The only answer was the hard click of the line going dead.

“I really thought Isolde would be more game than the last one. Guess not.”

Sloane muttered it under her breath.

“Shut up.” Tucker was finally getting angry.

“I won’t.” Sloane lifted her chin at him. “What’s so special about this Isolde, anyway? Compared to the others, she just loved you more.”

Tucker’s thoughts were a complete mess.

And yet, that one sentence gave him a ridiculous scrap of comfort.

Yeah.

Isolde had loved him.

He loosened his grip on the phone and instead contacted a capo he had known since childhood, trying to trace Isolde’s current location.

“It’s not that I won’t help you. I really can’t find her.”

The man looked at him oddly.

“Hospital records, flight manifests, every channel your people can access—they’ve all been sealed. You get what that means, right? The only people who can block your men are people ranked higher than you.”

Tucker’s heart sank. He turned at once toward the Moretti Family estate—the place he had once sworn he would never set foot in again.

“Where did you hide Isolde?”

Standing before his mother, he swept the glass of water in front of her straight to the floor.

His mother only frowned.

“You’re about to be married and you still have no manners.”

Tucker immediately sensed something was wrong. “What do you mean?”

“Isn’t the wedding tomorrow? Good timing. Help me decide what to wear.”

She rose and walked toward the dressing room.
