After I Saved Him My CEO Said We Were Strangers Chapter 19
His eyelashes trembled, just slightly.
He lowered his gaze and nodded.
When he spoke again, his voice was hoarse.
“Years ago, I’d already bought the ring. I was going to propose.”
I froze.
“As for Sophia,” he continued, “I’ve always owed you an explanation for that.”
“You were working yourself to the bone. I just wanted you to rest. Handing off the project was my clumsy way of trying to give you a break.”
He paused.
“I didn’t think about how it would make you feel.”

I stood, adjusted the scarf around my neck, and picked up my boarding pass.
“If I hadn’t let you go back then…”
“It wouldn’t matter now.”
I turned and walked toward the gate.
After a few steps, I stopped.
I didn’t look back.
“Take care of yourself, Reed.”
After the plane took off, I leaned my head against the window and watched the lights of the city shrink until they dissolved into the darkness.
A message popped up on my phone. It was from Nora.
“Text me when you land. Also, I found the address of that London bookstore you love. Sent it to your iMessage.”
I smiled and typed back a simple, “Okay.”
Then I turned off my phone and closed my eyes.
Outside the window, there was nothing but clouds and moonlight.
