After I Saved Him My CEO Said We Were Strangers Chapter 18
The last time I saw Reed was at the airport.
I was connecting through New York on my way to a business trip in London.
My company was sending me to negotiate a new partnership.
I saw him in the first-class lounge.
Reed was sitting by the window, his laptop open in front of him.
I stopped, stunned, for a full two seconds.
As if sensing my gaze, he looked up, and his eyes met mine.
They were just as I remembered—quiet and deep.
“Blair.”
He spoke first.
I snapped back to myself and managed a polite smile.
“Mr. Blake.”
He glanced at the boarding pass in my hand.
“Flying to London?”
“Yes. Just connecting through.”
“I heard your company’s European division has been doing very well. The department you run doubled its revenue last year.”
He was still keeping tabs on me.
“You’re very well-informed, Mr. Blake,” I said.
He nodded.
“You’re an exceptional woman. Congratulations.”
After all these years, I could handle a moment like this with detached calm.
“I should thank you as well, Mr. Blake, for all your guidance back then.”
The boarding announcement for my flight began to echo through the lounge.
Logically, our conversation should have ended there.
But he spoke again.
“I heard you’re still single.”
The hand at my side stiffened slightly.
“Could we try again?”
I looked up at him.
He looked almost the same as he had all those years ago.
But in his eyes, which had always been so steady and sure, there was now a trace of uncertainty I had never seen before.
Looking at him, I suddenly felt a wave of pity for the girl I used to be.
That girl, who had spent countless late nights waiting for his texts, waiting for his calls, waiting for him to turn around and see her—she was long gone.
“Reed.”
“I really don’t like you anymore.”
