He Left Our Daughter To Drown But I Saved The Footage Chapter 10

“Don’t let them get ahead of this,” I told my lawyer. “File for an emergency hearing immediately.”

Brooke would never have had the nerve to fabricate so much on her own.

The person trying to protect his reputation, his assets, and his custody rights was Evan.

He was terrified that a child abandonment charge would cost him everything, so he was trying to paint me as an unstable mother first.

The night before the hearing, my legal team uncovered another set of transfers.

In addition to the eighteen thousand from the emergency fund, Evan had sent Brooke another thirty-five thousand dollars over the past six months.

The timing and amounts of the transfers lined up almost perfectly with the online gambling debts she had been paying off.

The next day, the opposing lawyer had barely started his opening statement.

“Claire has a long history of emotional instability—”

“Objection.”

My lawyer rose and submitted the new bank records to the judge.

“This complaint has nothing to do with the child’s welfare. Its sole purpose is to conceal the diversion of marital assets.”

He then turned to face Evan.

“Mr. Landry, did you knowingly use marital funds to pay off thirty-five thousand dollars in online gambling debts for Brooke Mercer?”

The color drained from Evan’s face. He grabbed Brooke’s arm.

“You told me that was for your mother’s medical bills.”

Brooke burst into tears.

“I was just confused… I was scared if you found out, you wouldn’t help me anymore.”

My lawyer immediately petitioned for a temporary restraining order against Brooke, barring her from contacting or approaching me and Maisie.

After reviewing the documents, the judge brought down her gavel.

“We’ll recess. A ruling will follow.”
