He Left Our Daughter To Drown But I Saved The Footage Chapter 09

“It wasn’t just the calendar,” I said.

I pulled up the records from the school portal.

Over the past three months, Brooke had logged into Evan’s account multiple times to decline father-daughter events at Maisie’s school. Each time, she cited the same reason: “team scheduling conflict.”

Evan’s gaze snapped back to her.

“I thought you were declining them for me! You told me Claire said I didn’t need to go to those things!”

My hand froze.

All this time, she had been lying to both of us.

Just then, my phone rang. It was my lawyer, and her voice was urgent.

“Claire, Evan and Brooke just filed a joint complaint against you with CPS. They’re claiming long-term neglect, that you’re having an affair out of state, and that you had an emotional breakdown during the hurricane and are mentally unfit for sole custody.”

“An affair?”

For a second, I thought I’d misheard. My hand tightened around the phone.

“Do they have any evidence?”

“They don’t need it. They’re trying to create a smear campaign—to turn you from the victim into the aggressor so Evan can argue for joint, or even primary, custody.”

I looked up at the two of them.

Brooke refused to meet my eyes.

Evan didn’t flinch.

And I understood.

This wasn’t just her desperate counterattack.

This was them trying to take my daughter.
