My Family Regret When They Lose Me Chapter 04

The second Chloe finished speaking, my mother panicked.

“Sweetheart, don’t cry. Grandma’s here. Don’t listen to her nonsense.”

“She’s gone mad. How did I give birth to someone like—”

Marco cut her off with a frown.

“Not in front of the child.”

My mother froze, but Marco had already lowered his head and spoken softly into the screen.

“Chloe, don’t cry.”

“Where is she? Put her on the phone. I’ll talk to her.”

Chloe sniffled.

“She’s not here. She left with a big suitcase.”

“Daddy, the house is so dark. I’m scared.”

My mother’s voice rose immediately.

“What? How could she leave a child home alone?”

“I thought if she spent one night alone with the child, things might cool down. But she just left? Does she have any sense of responsibility at all?”

Marco tightened his grip on the phone.

“Chloe, don’t be scared. Daddy’s coming home right now.”

With that, he hung up and turned toward the door.

At that moment, my father came out of the kitchen with a plate of fruit and stopped him.

“Wait. What exactly happened tonight?”

“Why did Beatrice suddenly say those things to Chloe and walk out?”

He lowered his voice.

“Did one of you screw up and tip her off?”

Marco paused, his hand on his shoes.

Sofia stood up from the sofa, her voice wounded.

“How could that be? Everyone was so careful. There’s no way Beatrice could have found out.”

She sniffed, her voice dropping.
