No One Came Chapter 07
Then why didn’t you just walk in and look at me yesterday?
One look was all it would have taken. One look and you would have known something was wrong.
But you didn’t.
You stood in the doorway for a few seconds, and then you left.
The ambulance arrived quickly.
When the paramedics rushed in, Mom was sitting on the floor, clutching my hand and refusing to let go.
“Ma’am, please step aside.”
They lifted me onto the stretcher.
My body was already stiff. My arms were still bent at an awkward angle, difficult to straighten.
One of the paramedics took a single look at me, and his expression hardened.
He knew it was too late.
The livor mortis on my skin was obvious.
It meant I’d been dead for a long time.
In fact, from six o’clock last night until noon today, I had been dead for nearly twenty hours.
And in this house, not a single person had noticed.
Mom rode in the ambulance with me.
Inside, a paramedic spoke into the radio:
“Prepare the ER. Suspected anaphylactic shock. Patient has no vital signs.”
“Family states she was found over two hours ago, but lividity suggests TOD may be significantly longer.”
Mom sat frozen, her mouth agape, her eyes wide and vacant.
After a few seconds, she suddenly started to wail.
The sound was sharp and terrifying, as if something inside her had finally snapped.
“No… impossible… she was talking to me yesterday…”
At the hospital, the doctor’s words were calm and clinical.
