He Locked Me Out Now He’s Begging Me Back Chapter 08

An hour later, Marisol drove me back to the ADU.

I had just set my keys on the folding table when Daniel pushed the door open.

“Your friend went too far today.”

He didn’t ask where I had been. He didn’t ask if I was cold.

“Tessa cried for half an hour after what she said. Noah kept asking why his mom was crying. Do you have any idea how damaging that is for a child?”

I took off my coat and looked at him calmly.

“When she was crying, was she in my master bedroom?”

Daniel’s face stiffened.

“Claire, do you have to talk like that?”

“I’m just confirming the location.”

The ADU was only four hundred square feet. Standing in the doorway, he blocked most of the light. My file boxes were stacked beside the bed. My clothes were still in trash bags. The small fridge in the corner could hold only a few bottles of water, not even enough food for a week.

If I wanted something to eat, I had to go to the main house to get it.

Across the yard, that house was lit up and alive. The television, the clink of dishes, Noah’s laughter—it all carried over, as if that was where the real home was.
