He Locked Me Out Now He’s Begging Me Back Chapter 37

“I don’t care what people think anymore.”

I pushed the agreement toward him again.

“And I’m done using my life to prove I’m a good stepmother.”

Daniel pressed his lips together and tossed the pen onto the table.

“I’m not signing. I won’t sell the house, and I won’t get divorced.”

“Then your lawyers can deal with mine.”

I packed up my copy without trying to persuade him.

That night, Tessa sent me a long message.

She said Daniel had been absent for too much of her childhood and had always carried guilt over it; that he had promised to make things up to her and Noah because he only wanted to be a good father. She asked me, for the sake of our years of marriage, to give him one more chance and not destroy everyone’s home over “one place to live.”

She kept talking about peace and understanding, but what she was really saying was the same thing she had always said: Daniel owed her, and therefore I should keep surrendering my home, my money, and my life.

I read it, did not reply, and shut off the screen.

Why should one father’s guilt always be paid for by another woman?

This time, I would not be paying it for him.

Two months later, court-ordered mediation failed, and the partition action officially moved forward.
