Reborn To Reject My Regretful Mate For The King Chapter 03

Adrian pressed a hand to his brow, as if I were a great burden.

“I’m leaving Greymoor’s central district,” I said. “Now that Evelyn has the engagement, I need to find a job and a place of my own.”

He frowned.

“You need all this luggage just to look for a job?”

“What, you think I can’t afford to support you?”

I shook my head.

Whether he could afford it had never been the issue.

I just didn’t want to live in a house where I had to beg for every little thing.

Adrian grabbed my wrist.

“It’s too late now. Tomorrow, I’ll give you some money and have a driver take you wherever you want to go.”

“Evelyn will be busy with wedding preparations. Don’t make trouble.”

I was about to refuse when a sharp sting pierced the side of my neck.

The syringe in his hand was already empty.

The wolfsbane sedative suppressed my wolf instantly. I couldn’t shift, couldn’t even cry out before my vision went black.

When I woke, it was the next evening.

The windows were locked. My phone and suitcase were gone. Outside my bedroom door stood two private guards Adrian had hired.

Adrian sat on the edge of my bed, holding a cup of a healer’s recovery tonic.

“Why are you so weak? Have I not been feeding you enough?”

I pushed his hand away.

“Why did you inject me with wolfsbane?”

He was silent for a moment before setting the cup on the nightstand.

“Yesterday afternoon, I had another dream.”

“In it, Evelyn still dies, even if she marries Julian.”

“I have to change her fate. Just giving her Julian isn’t enough.”

A chill went down my spine.

“Adrian, why do you hate me so much?”

“Evelyn and I are both your sisters. Why does saving her always mean putting me in danger?”

Something like guilt flickered in his eyes.

It vanished in an instant.

“I’ve never wanted to hurt you. You’re both equally important to me.”

“But Evelyn has had it so hard since she was little. You’re stronger than she is. Why can’t you just help me save her?”

Evelyn had spent her entire life sheltered by him, never facing a single real consequence.

His idea of fairness was just another way of asking me to pay her price.

I was done arguing.

“What are you planning to do?”

“I saw the crippled man’s face clearly in the dream,” he said. “I’ve been in the herbal medicine business for years, and I know a lot of brokers up north. I’ve already found him.”

“He lives near the Northvale border and is looking for a mate with medical experience.”

“You’ll go live with him for a while. As long as you walk the path Evelyn walked in the dream, she’ll be safe.”

I closed my eyes, saying nothing.

Adrian didn’t have an Alpha’s power or the right to arrange an adult werewolf’s marriage.

But he controlled my ID and my phone, and his connections in Greymoor ran deep. It wouldn’t be easy to escape his security and network.

That man wasn’t part of Greymoor Pack.

As long as the car left the territory Adrian controlled, I would have a chance to run.

The next day, Julian came to my room.

The guard didn’t follow him inside, but the door was locked from the outside.

The first thing he asked was, “Camille, did you come back, too?”

I paused, then nodded.

He stared at me for a long time, the shock on his face slowly hardening into anger.

“Why are you still so vicious?”

I had no idea what he was talking about.

“I’m still willing to marry you,” he said. “So why won’t you leave Evelyn alone?”

“She died a horrible death in our last life. Do you really have to see her married to that crippled man again, caught in that same rebellion, before you’ll be satisfied?”

I laughed, a sound sharp with fury.

“What makes you so sure I’m the one who found him?”

Julian sighed.

“Who else would do something like this?”

“Adrian and I are trying to change Evelyn’s fate. Why are you fighting us?”

“I didn’t find him,” I said, my voice cold and clear. “Adrian did.”

“He’s planning to send me there to suffer Evelyn’s fate in her place.”

“Julian, you’re blaming the wrong person.”
