He Signed My Freedom Now He Wants Me Back Chapter 06
This time, I signed my name at the bottom of the record.
“Please preserve the original sample and the hallway security footage,” I said. “And send a copy to the Tidewatch Registry as a risk attachment to the claim cancellation.”
I wasn’t in a hurry to get revenge, but I was done erasing the evidence for the people who hurt me.
Vivian’s voice drifted from outside the door.
“Lucian, I had no idea they were that sensitive to wolfsbane. I just wanted to make them some juice.”
“It’s not your fault.” Lucian’s voice was gentle. “You didn’t know.”
“If I’d explained earlier, you wouldn’t have misunderstood Evelyn.” Vivian sighed dramatically. “Noah, Iris, how could you shift the blame to your mother just to protect me?”
The children started sniffling on cue.
“We know we were wrong,” Iris said. “But we just don’t like her.”
“She’s always controlling us—not letting us eat snacks, making us train on schedule,” Noah said. “We want her gone.”
My fingers tightened in the bedsheet.
These were the two pups I had nearly lost my own wolf bringing into the world.
When Noah was born, Lucian was in a territorial council meeting, handling a trade dispute. When the Healer had me sign the emergency delivery forms, not a single member of the Vane family was outside the room.
Giving birth to Iris was even worse. Her wolf aura was too weak, and she kept drawing on my strength to survive. I lost so much blood I could barely hold my human form.
Lucian was in neutral territory then, negotiating a cross-border contract for Dawncrest.
I had fought to bring them into this world.
And now, with their father, they had nearly destroyed my wolf with their own hands.
